(ITA version here)  My bed has always been a safe space. It’s somewhere where I lie in silence, stare at the ceiling while wandering inside my mind for hours, where I curl up after a long day or when I feel unmotivated. It’s a space to cry, dream, fight and let off steam — my bed knows all of my thoughts and feelings.

In 2022, shortly after I moved to Milan, I found myself sleeping in different beds every month, whether because I was visiting family, friends or travelling. Over time, I started to feel safe in beds other than my own, establishing a bond with each one of them. My safe space wasn’t only in my house anymore, it could now be anywhere — a space where I could let myself go every time I needed to.

I then started to capture almost every moment of waking up in a bed other than my own (Bedsheets I Slept With, 2022 - Ongoing), giving value to the unique shapes created with the sheets, moving my body and thoughts inside them. Each bedsheet became then a presence with which I spent the night with, and the creases formed by my movements are the traces of what we shared — they all hold a piece of me. Every photograph was then converted into a sound wave. Although the bed sheets are entirely white, their creases vary. Each photograph generated a distinct sound, giving every bedsheet its own voice, created from the shape it took after being inhabited.

The installation “Sleep With Me” seeks to engage with an external audience, offering the chance for a moment of safety, and let the mind wander within a liminal space. Visitors are invited to interact with the installation by occupying the bedsheets in the space, while listening to a soundscape shaped by their creases, creating new ones together.

When Elisa told me about the concept behind her installation “sleep with me”—giving a voice to her bedsheets, allowing them to recount what they had experienced with her—I immediately thought of transforming her photographs into actual sound. Using a software, I translated the images into three-dimensional sound waves, which I then further refined through sound design.
What you are hearing now is the result of this process: a collection of sounds born from Elisa’s photographs—emerging at times like small, almost imperceptible responses. Each one is unique, each one new— like the sensations and emotions that the artist experienced within their folds.
